Update on IARIW Activities-June 19, 2008

This message provides an update of recent and upcoming IARIW activities.
 Council Elections
Every two years the IARIW membership elects three members to serve on the Council for a six year term. This year we have received seven nominations for the three positions. IARIW members in good standing (i.e. paid-up members for 2008) are invited to vote for up to three individuals. Bios of the candidates are posted at http://www.iariw.org/councilnomrec2008.asp.
The deadline for receipt of ballots by the IARIW secretariat is Midnight (EDT) on August 15, 2008. The new Council members will be announced at the annual members meeting on August 26, 2008 at the 30th IARIW General Conference in Portoroz, Slovenia.
The ballot is found below and is also attached as a Word file. I look forward to a high turnout.
 Other Reminders
I would like to remind IARIW members of three other items. First, members attending the 30th General Conference in Portoroz, Slovenia August 24-30, 2008 are asked to register by June 20. Accommodation is not guaranteed after that date. Registration information is posted at http://www.stat.si/Iariw2008/Default.aspx?id=43.
Second, as pursuant of the IARIW bylaws, notice is hereby given that the annual members meeting of the Association will take place at 20:30 on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the 30th IARIW General Conference in Portoroz, Slovenia. The agenda for the meeting is posted at www.iariw.org/agenda2008.pdf.
Third, members are encouraged to register for the training course on national accounts that the Association is offering to the membership immediately preceding the General Conference on August 23-24. The course will be given by Francois Lequiller from INSEE and former Head of National Accounts at the OECD. There is no change for IARIW members. Details on the course and the on-line registration form are posted at www.iariw.org/apply2.asp.
Finally, members are reminded that session proposals for the 31th IARIW General Conference which will take place in Switzerland in August 2010 are now being received by the secretariat (info@iariw.org) and will continue to be received until noon on Tuesday, August 26. These proposals will be distributed and debated at the members meeting.
I look forward to seeing as many members as possible in Slovenia in just over two months.
